Wyoming data checklist

Stratum checks a customer's WB4 well data against what the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC) publishes. These answers decide exactly which Wyoming data Stratum downloads and checks. Once confirmed, this is the official requirement.

Where each item comes from

WB4 is the record and field in the customer's file (none means the WB4 has no place for it). WOGCC is the column in Wyoming's download, and the download it comes from.

Not in this checklist because Wyoming does not publish them and they are the customer's own interpretation: log curves, zone manager data, core analysis, remarks, faults and the WB4 reference tables. They pass through the customer's WB4 file untouched.

What we found while preparing this list

  • WOGCC's statewide files carry a date in their name, and the naming pattern itself changes. The well header file is now 090126WH.zip; the production file changed from Ttl_Prod_… to TtlProd_…. Stratum's current download asked for an older name and has been failing since 2026-09-07. The new process will find the current file from WOGCC's download menu instead of predicting its name.
  • WOGCC also publishes statewide downloads for formation tops, completions with initial potential, producing intervals, perforations, casing, treatments and drill stem tests. Stratum does not use them yet. The completions download is limited to 365 days per request.
  • The well header download holds two tables: all wells (about 143,000) and plugged and abandoned wells (about 67,000).
  • Directional surveys are not published as data. Only the bottom-hole location is.
  • Formation tops come with a top depth only: no base and no true vertical depth.

  • WB4 fields: the GeoGraphix ASCII4 format specification, as implemented and validated in Stratum's WB4 parser.
  • Wyoming: WOGCC download menu and the Formations, Completions and Production menus, checked on 2026-09-29. The well header column list was read from the live well header download.
  • Stratum's current Wyoming download reads about 20 well header columns and reduces production to cumulative and last-12-month totals.
  • The putty-knife prototype queries 44 well header columns one township at a time and mirrors the well header, production and coal bed methane downloads.
